Does anyone have a PowerPoint presentation that they would be willing to share regarding the Internet and offenders soliciting minors, viewing child porn, using social networks to contact minors, etc.

Christian,

Marty Oelrich is extremely knowledgeable in this topic area. Here is a link to find more about him and to contact him. You two seem to have similar backgrounds and interests.

I think Marty Oelrich already has such a presentation. It sounds like the one I'm attending in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

I'll post my impressions when I get back

Ebvan,

You can throw things...just as long as they're small and have a rounded edge.

ckieso,

Saturday Night Live has a great spoof on internet offenders that amazingly enough, is clean enough to show any audience. It really brings the point home to parents. If you can't find it on Utube, let me know and I will send it to you. Search "My Space" on Utube to find it.

The clip is also available on www.hulu.com. You can search the same topic under SNL. I've used the clip several times during presentations. Marty

Marty, I saw your presentation at APA last year and you already sent me the SNL clip. The presentation was excellent.

What I am looking for is someone that would be willing to share their information, or a PowerPoint with information on Internet offenders. I appreciate the feedback that you have given me. CK

CK,

Thanks for the feedback. I will contact you offline. I have numerous other video clips that I can link here if others are interested. It won't happen this week though.

I am currently completing several semi-structured interviews and decision trees for interviews regarding computer and Internet use (i.e. child pornography; Internet-Initiated Sex Crimes; maintenance examinations; etc.). However, the questionnaire's are not yet complete.

Additionally, I am currently incorporating information specific to LE screening examinations. This information, when complete, will include specific information for application to interviews with examinees that will be in charge of large data systems or handle significant confidential and/or classified electronic data. More to come.

Marty,

Please share your new stuff here with all of us! I recently added three questions to my LE Questionnaire about sending and receiving explicit photos/data over the internet and you would be amazed at the admissions I am getting. I also added a question about communicating over the internet with a minor and have had similar results.

I agree about adding questions on pre-employment questionnaires and PCSOT questionnaires about sending/receiving sexual info over the Internet. Don't forget to include Instant Messaging (I/M), chat rooms and video chat rooms/forums as sources of porn.

Cell phone texting is the number one vehicle I am seeing to send/receive images and should be asked of all PCSOT folks and applicants.

My 2 cent's worth...

Nearly every offender that I test on a maintenance/monitor exam, discloses during the pretest interview that while on supervision they have sent, received, or viewed pornographic material on a cell phone.

I have several questions included on the questionnaire that address areas of Internet and cell phone pornography. Many juveniles and college age offenders have admitted to accessing pornography on Playstation, Nintendo, XBOX, etc. as well as storing pornography on memory storage devices.

As promissed I say cpolys presentation at the Oklahoma Sheriff's and Peace Officer's Association annual convention.

By and Large it was an excellent presentation, but the necessary process of laying the statistical and historical groundwork for the substance of the presentation is a bit dry.

His "one more question" approach (my term not his)and applying decision trees to interviewing examinees provides an excellent guide for systematically moving an interviewee from generalities to specifics regarding their deviant thoughts and behaviors. Hard copies of his interview guides would have been helpful but unavailable probably due technical difficulties and premature presentation of a work in progress.

Those of us who stayed to the end learned quite a bit. My time and seminar fee was well spent. I think he is on to something here that may significantly alter the pre-test process for sex offenders pre and post conviction.

I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE MEMBERS OF THE OKLAHOMA ASSOCIATION WHO DRIFTED AWAY TO THE HOSPITALITY SUITES BEFORE THE INSTRUCTION CONCLUDED. I did discover that a couple of investigators were called away to duty, but the rest were just rude.

Ebvan,

Thank you for the kind response. The presentation material was not provided in the form of a handout for unknown reasons.

As I stated, I have several questionnaires that are continually undergoing revision. I am currently working on several papers and a formalized document, specific to interviewing individuals regarding computer and Internet use. More to come.

Below I have attached a semi-structured interview regarding internet solicitations. The document is a conglomeration of information received from several sources. However, the questions provide more specific information and clarifications conducive to the treatment process. Decision models and structured or semi-structured interviews assist individuals in conducting thorough interviews, in spite of having limited knowledge of a topic.

Internet Solicitations:

What was the name of the individual you communicated with online?
What was the age and gender of the individual you were communicating with?
Where did you meet the minor online (e.g. chat, social networking website, etc.)?
Who initiated the contact, you or the minor?
How did you decide to communicate with the minor (e.g. age, sex, location, profile, picture, etc.)?
Did you attempt to communicate with any other minors prior to communicating with this person?
If yes, how many other minors did you attempt to communicate with?

What screen name were you using to communicate with the minor?
Did you falsify any information in your profile (e.g. age, location, etc.)?

When was the first time you communicated with the minor?
When was the last time you communicated with the minor?
How many times or how frequently did you communicate with the minor online?

Did you engage in any sexual conversations with the minor?
If yes, describe in detail what you said during the conversation(s)?
Did you initiate the sexual conversation(s) with the individual?
If yes, how did you initiate the conversation?

Did you request any images from the minor (i.e. pictures, webcam, etc.)?
If yes, describe the images you requested.
Did the minor send any images?
If yes, describe the images they sent.
Did the images depict any nudity or partial nudity?
Did you use any of the images for masturbation?

Did you send any images or links to images to the minor?
Described the images or links you sent.
Did any of the images depict any nudity or partial nudity?
Did you masturbate at any time while communicating with the minor?
If yes, how many times or how frequently did you masturbate?

Did you ask the minor to assist you in meeting any other minor?
Did you use or attempt to use the minors profile, website, etc. to make contact with any other minor?
Did you make contact with any other minors though this process?

Did you request any offline contact (e.g. phone or in person)?
If yes, what type of contact did you request?

Did you send the minor gifts, toys, letters, etc. or purchase them anything online?
If yes, what did you send them?

Did you meet or attempt to meet the minor in person?
Where did you attempt to meet the minor?
How far did you travel (length of time or miles)?
Did you bring any items with you for the contact? If yes, what did you bring?
What sexual acts did you engage in or plan on engaging in with the minor?
Where did you have or plan to have sexual contact with the minor after meeting?
Standard questions regarding sexual contact.

How did you convince or persuade the minor to have offline contact (i.e. grooming behaviors)?
Do you think what you did was wrong? Explain in detail why.
How were you caught?
Do you believe law enforcement or anyone else is to blame for your current situation?

Please note: I edited some information for brevity. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. If you’re interested in the actual questionnaire, which is numbered and well organized, you can email me at martyoelrich@hotmail.com.

Hey there. Sounds like you're busy. Oh well maybe those promissed files will hit my email box someday.

As we say out here in Oklahoma.

"Don't git so many arns in the far yew mis-brand yor beef critters."
or
"Don't get so many irons in the fire you mis-brand your cattle" for you folks East of the Mississippi.
or
"Be extremely cautious and avoid the over accumulation of thermodynamic indelible marking devices in order to prevent the mis-identification of your domesticated bovines" for Mr. Nelson or any of you folks with more schooling than anyone really needs.
